Located off the coast of Turkey and approximately 9 km from the city of Fethiye, Gemiler Island is known for its ancient ruins and remains of churches dating back to the 4-5 centuries AD. According to the archeologists, this is also the location of the original tomb of St. Nicholas. In the middle ages, the island was abuzz with trading ships and boats from the eastern, European, and Eastern Mediterranean countries.
